The Courtyards in Long Beach will provide permanent supportive housing to twenty-three homeless and mentally ill households in a mixed population, scatter-site development model. The Courtyards in Long Beach is a substantial rehabilitation of four single-story courtyard-style apartment buildings constructed in the 1920's, with each building housing a range of 10-12 studio apartments complete with kitchens and bathrooms. Each building will reserve approximately 50% of its units for Mental Health Services Act eligible households, with supportive services provided by Mental Health America of Los Angeles. The architectural design of each building is appropriate and complimentary to surrounding historic homes and structures, and was designed using green-building criteria from Enterprises Green Communities program. The renovation of the dilapidated buildings presents a significant investment to the Long Beach community.
