About Gateway Healthcare, Inc.

Gateway Healthcare is a non-profit behavioral health care organization that provides a wide array of services to adults, children and families in Rhode Island. Our services are available to people of all cultural and economic backgrounds, who may not otherwise have access to the services they need.

Gateway offers an extensive continuum of services that supports its mission of promoting resiliency and assisting individuals in their recovery. These include around-the-clock psychiatric emergency services, psychiatric medication therapy services, outpatient counseling for individuals and families, specialized residential care for children and adolescents, permanent affordable housing for adults, supervised adult residential services, adult supported housing services, mental health services for adults with persistent mental health issues, a licensed school for children with emotional and behavioral difficulties, nationally recognized vocational and occupational rehabilitation services, a therapeutic outdoor recreation program for children and adolescents, a homeless shelter for families, residential substance abuse services, as well as individual and case management services for adults and children.

Established in 1995 as a community mental health center for residents of northern and central Rhode Island, Gateway has since grown to include more than 42 locations across Rhode Island, including Pawtucket, Central Falls, Johnston, Cranston, Middletown, Lincoln, Smithfield, Woonsocket and West Greenwich. Gateway's size and statewide reach sets it apart from other community-based mental health and substance abuse organizations, providing more than $3 million in free care each year to those in need.

Today, Gateway and its affiliates employ over 950 professionals and reach more than 15,000 Rhode Islanders each year through residential, outpatient and community-based programs. Our network of affiliates include The Autism Project, Capital City Community Centers and FRIENDS WAY. Gateway proudly stands alongside its affiliates in a mutual effort to address creative solutions for community care. This impressive continuum places Gateway at the forefront in assisting individuals in the community in a myriad of ways.

Gateway is a member of the Rhode Island Council of Community Mental Health Organizations, is fully accredited by the Joint Commission and is licensed by the Rhode Island Department of Mental Health, Retardation and Hospitals, the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families and the Rhode Island Department of Education.
