About Aitkin County HRA

Subsidized housing is provided to families, seniors and disabled individuals whose income is between 50% and 80% of median area income. With funding for the various programs provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the USDA Rural Development. Open Market housing is available to all applicants at affordable rents.

You may be surprised to find that income qualifications do not have to be extremely low. We have a variety of housing programs available at a broad range of income limits.

The Aitkin County HRA manages several apartments and houses within Aitkin, McGregor and Hill City.

The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program is designed to help low-income families pay their rent. Eligible families select their own rental unit and pay no more than 40% of their family income towards rent. The Aitkin County HRA pays the remaining balance.

Those eligible for the program include:
Elderly
Handicapped or disabled individuals
Families of two or more persons
Single persons

The Aitkin County HRA owns two eight unit buildings with the assistance of USDA Rural Development. These units are one and two bedroom apartments available to elderly or disabled persons meeting the prescribed income guidelines.

The mission of the Housing Authority of Aitkin County is to promote decent, safe, and affordable housing and economic opportunity to low-income families. We are committed to assisting low-income families with incomes below 80% of area median, adjusted for family size.
