About Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA)

The Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA) is a public agency established under the Housing Authority Law, Chapter 1, Title 36 of the Code of Virginia of 1938. It's primary mission is to provide sanitary and safe dwelling accommodations to persons of low income at rents they can afford. Low income is defined by federal, state and local regulations for programs administered by ARHA.

For the last 71-years, the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA) has provided adequate and affordable housing, economic opportunities and a suitable living environment, free from discrimination, for the citizens of Alexandria. Our mission for the next five years is to be an industry leader in the development and management of model mixed income communities that provide the opportunity for residents to achieve self-sufficiency and to participate in economic opportunities that are made possible through this model.
