About Eufaula Housing Authority

Founded in 1952, the Housing Authority of the City of Eufaula is chartered under the laws of the State of Alabama to provide and administer affordable housing programs for the citizens of Eufaula. The Housing Authority receives policy guidance and operational approval from its five member governing Board of Commissioners who are appointed by the Mayor of the City of Eufaula. All funding is provided by the Federal Government through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Located in southeast Alabama on beautiful Lake Eufaula, the Eufaula Housing Authority (EHA) provides 377 units of public housing in the city limits of Eufaula. The Section 8 program administers 432 housing vouchers in both Barbour and Henry Counties. EHA.s staff consists of 24 full-time and 1 part-time employee.

We are committed to providing quality customer service to our residents. In addition, we wish to provide every opportunity available so that residents may fulfill their personal and career goals. Education is at the top of the list as we pride ourselves in providing educational opportunities for every age group. From our Little Scholars Pre-School for three and four year olds to our after-school tutorial and adult education classes, everyone has the chance to further their education.

Mission Statement

The goal of the Eufaula Housing Authority is to provide drug and crime free, decent, safe and sanitary housing for eligible families and to promote homeownership opportunities, self-sufficiency and economic independence for residents.

Under the Public Housing Program, the applicant must qualify as a family and be under the HUD prescribed income limits. The head of household must be 19 years of age or older or 18 years old and married. The applicant must pass comprehensive screening which includes background checks on criminal history, previous landlord references, other housing authorities, employers, social service agencies, court records and the like.

The Eufaula Housing Authority determines the amount of rent based on the family's total income. Generally, the rent is 30% of the adjusted gross income. Once declared eligible and the family's name is called from the waiting list, the appropriate sized apartment is selected for the family.

The Eufaula Housing Authority has four apartment complexes throughout the city. They are: Chattahoochee Courts, Western Heights, Forest Hills and Fairlane Meadows.
